Design
Resources for physicians and clinicians cannot just be about information. Design and the integration of human factors (tendencies, preferences, reactions) need to be taken into account when creating a new product. Design must include both art and utility; consider the user interface and user experience. As a physician, director, and chief medical officer, I have seen firsthand the resources necessary to capture the attention of physicians and clinicians in a meaningful way.
Informatics
Clinical informatics is a specialty that exists to study and implement information technology in healthcare in meaningful and helpful ways. Board certification in Clinical Informatics signifies the achievement of the necessary education and perspective required to integrate a new system or program into a healthcare setting. Key to any technology project are the questions of how and when a new product will be used by physicians and clinicians.
Innovation
Emergency Medicine is a field ripe for improvement and innovation. High volume, high acuity, and high stress make any emergency department an ideal place for process improvement and new technology. Over the course of twenty years in clinical medicine, I have enjoyed implementing solutions in many areas, including:
- Patient flow and metric measurement
- Physician scheduling
- Document storage and sharing
- Private Wiki content creation and design
- Mobile app development for physician groups
